    Recalls & Safety Alerts

Dog and cat food recalls, FDA advisories and disease alerts, each with the date it was announced and what to do if it affects your pet.

This page collects recalls, FDA advisories and disease alerts that affect dogs and cats. Every entry gives the date the recall or alert was announced, links to the official notice, and says plainly when an event is from an earlier year, so you can tell an old recall from a new one at a glance.

The first place to check any pet food or treat is the FDA's own list of animal and veterinary recalls and withdrawals, along with its outbreaks and advisories page. The entries here explain what those notices mean for an owner: which products and lot numbers are affected, what illness to watch for, and what to do with the food you already have.

If you think a food made your pet sick, the FDA asks owners to report it through its Safety Reporting Portal, and its guide on how to report a pet food complaint lists what to keep: the original package with its lot number and best-by date, the UPC, where and when you bought it, and your veterinarian's records. Keep the bag even if you have moved the food to another container. If your pet is showing signs of illness, call your vet first and report afterward.
