Editorial Policy

Pet owners make real decisions based on what they read here, so this page sets out the rules the site works by. The step-by-step process, the source list and the AI policy are on How We Research.

Who writes the content

Pet Health Care Guide is a one-person site. Justin Manuel Lantigua Germosen runs it, decides what is published and is responsible for every page. He is a computer science student and web developer, not a veterinarian. Drafts are written with the help of an AI writing assistant, and every page is reviewed and approved by Justin before it goes live. No veterinarian currently reviews the content.

Accuracy and sources

• Medical and numeric claims link to their source in the text, next to the claim. Most of those sources are primary: peer-reviewed studies, veterinary consensus guidelines and references such as the Merck Veterinary Manual and the Cornell Feline Health Center.
• Other pet blogs and AI chatbot answers are not treated as sources.
• If a claim can't be verified against a source we can link to, it is left out.
• Older guides are being rewritten to meet this standard. Until a guide has been rewritten, it may list its sources at the end instead of next to each claim.

Honesty about experience

We don't invent veterinarians, reviewers, testimonials, case stories or pets, and we don't write "we tested" about anything we didn't test. The only first-hand experience on this site is Justin's, mostly with his family's dog, Bruno, and it is presented as one owner's experience, not as advice.

Editorial independence

Nobody pays to appear on Pet Health Care Guide or to be described more favorably. Advertisers have no influence over what we cover or conclude, and ads are kept visually separate from the articles. The site currently has no affiliate links and no sponsored content. How the site is paid for is explained under How this site is funded.

Dates and updates

Each guide shows when it was published and, if it has changed in a way that matters, when it was last updated. Design changes and typo fixes don't change the date.

Corrections

If you spot a mistake, email hello@pethealthcareguide.com with the page and what you think is wrong. Health and safety corrections are handled first, and corrected medical information is noted at the end of the page. Details are in the corrections policy.

What this site is not

Pet health is a topic where bad information can hurt, so we are clear about our limits. Pet Health Care Guide is not:

• A veterinary clinic or telehealth service
• A substitute for an in-person relationship with a licensed veterinarian
• A source of diagnosis or treatment for your specific pet
• Written or reviewed by a veterinarian, unless a page names the veterinarian who reviewed it
