About Pet Health Care Guide
Down-to-earth care advice for dog and cat owners.
Why this site exists
Pet Health Care Guide is a hobby project run by one person, Justin Manuel Lantigua Germosen, a computer science student and web developer in Almería, Spain. He likes animals and likes building websites, and he wanted to learn how to look after his family's dog, Bruno, a medium-large dog who scratches until he hurts his skin, mostly in summer, and drinks so messily that the floor ends up soaked. Justin is not a veterinarian. The site's job is to explain what veterinary sources actually say, link to them, and tell you when a question needs your own vet.
What we cover
The guides cover five areas for both dogs and cats:
- Health: symptoms, common conditions, and when to see a veterinarian
- Nutrition: food safety, how much to feed, and reading labels
- Behavior: training and common problems, handled with reward-based methods
- Grooming: nails, ears, teeth, coat care and bathing
- Breeds: choosing a dog or cat that fits your home
There are also free calculators, such as the dog chocolate toxicity calculator, and a Recalls & Safety Alerts page that tracks pet food recalls and FDA advisories.
How we work
- Sources you can check. Medical and numeric claims link to their source, most often a veterinary reference, a consensus guideline or a published study. Older guides are being rewritten to this standard one at a time.
- Open about AI. Drafts are written with an AI assistant, then fact-checked against sources and approved by Justin. The details are on How We Research.
- Your vet comes first. Nothing here replaces a veterinarian who can examine your pet, and health guides say clearly when to call one.
- Nothing for sale. No brand can pay to appear or to be recommended. The rules are in our Editorial Policy.
